Graduate Scholarships

 

Bhagat Scholarship Fund.

Dr. Goberdhan Bhagat (1928-2015), originally from Bihar, India and affectionately known as ‘G.B’, served as an adviser to the United Nations while studying at Yale, and in 1964 joined the faculty at UM, teaching in the political science department for 30 years, retiring in 1994. As one faculty member stated “GB introduced several generations of students to the world of international politics.  Dr. Bhagat has influenced the lives and thinking of many alumni, including many Mississippi political leaders.”

 

Recipients will be first-year students in the Doctoral Program or enrolled in the department’s Take 5 program.  Selection is made by the Graduate Program Coordinator and the Graduate Committee.  Selection is typically made in the Spring/Summer for the coming academic year.

Dwight L. Tays Political Science Scholarship

Dwight L. Tays, a native Alabamian, earned a doctorate in political science from Ole Miss in 1982, then began 40-plus years as professor and chair of the Department of History, Politics and Philosophy, at Lipscomb University (Nashville, TN). As he states ‘The Department of Political Science at Ole Miss not only provided me with a sound education but also inspired me to make societal contributions beyond the classroom’. 

 

Recipients will be students in the Political Science PhD program.  Selection will be made by the Graduate Program Director and the Graduate Studies Committee on the basis of outstanding academic record and a strong desire to pursue graduate studies in Political Science.  Selection is made in the spring for the following year.
