Financial Aid for Graduate Students

Master’s and Doctoral students in Political Science are eligible for numerous forms of financial assistance, including graduate assistantships (which require assisting faculty with teaching or research), minority fellowships, honors fellowships, and tuition waivers. Graduate assistantships automatically receive a full tuition waiver (including a full waiver of out-of-state tuition), 9-month academic year stipend, and health insurance coverage.

Stipends can range from $13,000-$17,000 a year for Ph.D. students.  Some years the department may also offer funding to incoming M.A. students as well.  Other opportunities exist to increase these amounts, such as dissertation completion awards, summer teaching, and scholarships and fellowships offered by the university.
